Frequently Asked Questions
CAN I TRIAL A CLASS?
Yes! We can offer a paid trial for small group sessions and the tutor can provide verbal feedback at the end of the session to discuss the plan going forward. We always encourage doing at least 2-3 sessions to get a full understanding of the group environment.
DOES TUTORING CONTINUE THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS?
We continue tuition through all Holidays including public holidays (except Christmas). We know from experience that having tuition in the school holiday period means students still have time to strengthen their skill sets and go over any missed skills. We also have online options for when you physically go away.
SMALL GROUP REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY
Due to our smaller classes, low fees and capped numbers, once you enrol in a class, we hold a place for your child. We cannot offer a refund, especially once term has started. We do not adjust term fees for taking weeks off.
If a session must be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances such as a state-wide lockdown, it is Ace Tutoring’s policy to reschedule, move or add another session to make up for the missed time. If Ace Tutoring is unable to offer an alternative for any reason a credit will be applied to the following term.
HOME TUITION REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY
The scheduled appointment with clients ensures that a particular time is allocated to them. If cancelled at short notice, another student cannot be scheduled for that session time.
Ace Tutoring must be notified of a session cancellation no less than 24 hours prior to the session. We will contact the tutor and organise a makeup session within that week. If the alternative days and times provided do not suit you, the charge will still apply.
If our tutor cancels a session and cannot provide alternative days and times that suit you within the week, we may opt to extend the duration of the next few sessions to make up for the hour/s missed. Otherwise, that session will be credited to the next invoice.
If you know of an upcoming scheduling clash, we prefer move the session to a different day in that same week. The tutor will then inform us so we have accurate records.
WHAT DO YOU COVER IN A TUTORING SESSION?
Primary students cover the W.A. Primary curriculum, with the tutor ascertaining what your child does not know! This is way more important than going over topics your child knows over and over. The latter is a waste of time, so we use your child’s time effectively, working on weak skill sets and extending them, developing strategies to problem solve when they ‘hit a wall’ and apply logic to questions.
For High School students, we work through their individual school outline (located on SEQTA, Connect or Compass) assisting them with upcoming essays, test and exam preparation. We work holistically to teach your child how they can learn the content more effectively and organise themselves to record notes and make relevant diagrams.
WILL THERE BE HOMEWORK TO DO?
The tutor will assist your child in setting Weekly Study Goals to complete before the tutor returns the following session. These are pertaining to your child’s weaker areas, as well as supporting them with their schoolwork. We set these depending on what how much homework they already bring home from school.
WOULD PURCHASING RESOURCES SUCH AS TEXTBOOKS BENEFIT MY CHILD?
Definitely! It is advantageous to have a physical textbook that a student can study from. Having these and study guides will also assist you, the parent, by being able to test your child at home before your child sits the in-class assessment.
SHOULD I BOOK IN FOR WORKSHOPS ON TOP OF TUTORING?
Of course! Whether your child is Year 6 and needing the support to transition to High School or your child is already in High School needing support with Study Skills/Exam Revision, each Workshop provides additional support with the weekly tutoring. All students Year 6 – 12 are strongly advised to attend our dynamic, student-centric, tailored Workshops.
